After it cools use one of those afore mentioned 8 point sockets and it will usually come out easily. I've been using this method on frozen pipe plugs in blocks for years and it hasn't failed me yet. Unfortunately, the link provided by @Mr.AC is for the rear differential, and the online catalogs don't list parts for the front differential. I tried a few sites with no luck.
